Cigarillos or the little cigars are small and narrow cigars which look like a cigarette in brown cover. Little cigars are available with and without filters. The filtered little cigar is wrapped with a wrapper of processed tobacco whereas the cigars without filters have tobacco leaves wrapped around them. Smokers of cigars consider the little cigar as the smallest and cheapest cigar available in the market. Little cigars are preferred by those who like the taste of cigars but do not have money to buy the expensive cigars or if they do not have enough time to smoke a cigar or if they want to have the taste of cigar which looks like a cigarette. The market is flooded with many brands of little cigar. Some of these brands are Black and Mild, Swisher Sweets, Winchester little cigars, Santa Fe, Optimo, King Edward, Cornerstone and there are many others.

Available in many flavors like grape, wine, apple, cherry, cream etc., sales of the little cigar have grown significantly in the past few years. Two main reasons are attributed to its growth. One is the lesser tax rates. This difference in tax rate lured buyers to little cigars and the sales of cigarettes declined. The second is the minimal marketing restrictions since the covers of the little cigars carry fewer to minimal health warnings. The manufacturers of little cigars have made them stylish and buyers feel that they are less harmful than cigarettes. Health groups are happy that the consumption of cigarettes has declined but are worried over the increasing consumption of little cigars. But, do little cigars raise health concerns? Yes, both cigarettes and cigars raise similar health concerns. Little cigars with fruity flavor make it easier to inhale and hence raise the same health concerns as with cigarettes. A study in Canada on the smoke of cigarette and cigar found around 27 lethal substances in both, proving that both cigarette and cigar smoking can be injurious to health. Little cigars are as addictive as cigarettes and can cause coronary heart disease, lung cancer, or larynx cancer. With smoking related illness, the financial burden also increases due to the expensive medical treatment of the diseases.
